education

I didn’t just study education.

I’ve spent time in classrooms and worked alongside teachers.

I attended public schools, went on to teach at the university level, and held administrative roles at two institutions. I’ve worked with students trying to find their way, first-generation college students, and families counting on education to open doors.

And what I’ve seen is this.

Where you grow up still shapes your access to opportunity.

What’s happening in District 25

District 25 has more Title I schools than many other areas of Greenville County. That means a higher percentage of students are coming from households that need additional support.

That’s not a lack of ability.
That’s a lack of investment.

Too many schools are being asked to do more with less. Teachers are stretched thin. Students are carrying challenges into the classroom that don’t just disappear during the school day.

At the same time, other parts of the county continue to see growth and investment, while too many communities are still waiting for the same level of attention and resources.

That gap shows up in outcomes.

And it shouldn’t.

Why this matters

Education is still one of the most powerful pathways to opportunity we have.

But not every student is starting from the same place.

When schools are under-resourced:

  • Students fall behind

  • Teachers burn out

  • Communities feel the impact for years

And when we ignore that, we don’t just fail students.
We limit our workforce, our economy, and our future.

What I will work on in the State House

  • Equitable school funding
Ensure schools serving higher-need populations have the resources to meet those needs.

  • Supporting teachers
Advocate for better pay, stronger retention strategies, and real classroom support.

  • Early intervention and student support
Invest in mental health services, reading support, and programs that address challenges early.

  • Career and workforce pathways
Expand access to career and technical education so students have multiple paths to success.

  • Stronger school-community connections
Support partnerships that help meet student needs both inside and outside the classroom.
